LO1: Photography Genres

 

The purpose of lanscape of this photograph is to make the viewer feel amazed by the beauty of Earth in this photograph. This is done through changing the contract of the imagine and creating an outer glow to make the colour of the Earths water stand out more. Yann Arthus has used framing to distinguish the differnece between the left side of the Earth which is cloudy and the right side which is clear. 

The meaning behind this photograph would have the audience feeling stunned by how beautiful the earth looks from outter space. I believe that people would feel drawn in a soon as they see the contrast of dark and light colours.

 The image I have chosen from Robert Doisneau is a black and white photo, the interesting thing about this black and white photo is the fact that everything around Roberts face is completely dark or black, he has made the lightest area of this photograph his face in order to draw in more eyes from the audience, this is the main focal point of the picture. 

Due to the facial expressions projectd within the photograph the audience may connote a sense of seriousness due to the facial expression depicted within this photograph. This would indicate to them how Robert Doisneau was feeling during that photograph.

Social reportage is a different type of photography from the other genres. Social reportage uses its photography in order to create a story that will draw the audience in to the article or book they're reading. The most common camera element used within this genre is by capturing a photograph with a main focal point in order to draw in eyes.

When people look at social reportage photography, they do it to see a visual story. This usually gives the audience a idea of what if happing during the photograph due to what they can denote within the picture, therefore drawing in more of an audience.

Portrait

This is a painting or photograph that is displaying only the face or the head and shoulders of a person.

This is a self portrait for David Bailey, within this portrait I can denote that he has used black and white in order to capture features more and show emotion. Looking at my selected picture you can denote a focused look on David Bailey's face, this connotes that he is serious.


Still Life

Still life could be a painting or a picture showing the arrangement of an object, this is typically used with fruit and flowers.

Edward Steichen is a still life photographer that incorporates his form of still life with a style of portrait by using composition in a different and extraordinary way. As you can see he has used composition to infuse the floral design with the portrait of the woman to create peace of still life.


Night Photography

This refers to photography that takes place at night, out doors between dusk and dawn. night photography could either use artificial or natural light within their shoots and generally chafe the exposure to edit the picture.

If you look at this night photography picture taken by  Brassai you can see that his style of night photography tends to create a kind of story that allows the viewers to imagine what is going on in this certain scene.


Wildlife

This is the photography of a type of wildlife that focuses on both domestic and non-domestic animals. This type of photography has both an artistic and scientific value to the community.

Brian Skerry is a wildlife photographer that explores various parts of the world putting himself in a various amount of dangerous and life threatening situations in order to gain the best picture possible of these animals. As you can see in this picture I have selected Brian Skerry is face to face with a shark in the sea to capture a scary yet beautiful piece of photography.


Studio/ Fashion 

Fashion photography is a genre of photography which is devoted to the promotion of clothing and other fashion products.

Mario Testino is a photographer that uses fashion and studio photography to capture images models wearing clothing that help promote or even advertise a clothing brand or a models physical features.

Street

Street photography is photography that takes place in random areas that is not planned for or prepared for in any way. it is basically photography of the natural environment and how people function within that environment.

Garry Winogrand is a street photographer that likes to take pictures of people living their life normally within the environment, as you can see his style is a more vintage style of street photography that helps give the viewers an understanding of the time.
